ai can't replace taste

hi, it's me.

normally, when developing an app/product/whatever- you want to design it and that's great! designing things make you stand out from the rest of the populus and showcases your creativity, so if you're designing your own stuff. keep it up!

however, what i'm seeing recently (at least on my x timeline) are people who post stuff like "oh, look! [xxxx] model just one shotted this masterpiece of [design] and it looks great!" and honestly, i find it absolutely horrendous and slop af.

when you think about design, you think of the small intricate details, e.g. performance, microinteractions, the way this padding should be this specific value and is equal and not some other value. and when ai is introduced, it should help you to increase your throughput and NOT replace your creativity as a human. sure it can and will replicate things you tell it to BUT in the case of a blender example i've seen recently, cannot replicate it in one shot without additional prompts to back it up because when you ask a model to do something, it just does it bluntly and does not give a shit about performance or whatever detail without further prompts. granted- this may be a prompt issue caused by a problem existing between the keyboard and chair (pebkac) but you can't realistically expect ai to replace your thinking and just have it go from ooh ooga booga -> 1.

this goes without saying, that ai (i'm talking about you claude) is just a tool to help us and can echo what you want it to be, it does not have emotion and treating it to have one will likely send you down a rabbit hole of ai psychosis. it is entirely about how you use it and like what they say- garbage in -> garbage out.

so for those people (including myself) who say that "oh we will be replaced by ai, job market is cooked, ai will replace devs"- i think it would be nice to reconsider where you are currently in ai, because ai can replace mundane or repetitive tasks (like writing code) but it can't replace the human driving it.

not to mention that if you don't give a fuck about what you do, it will reflect in the ai's work. which is entirely another reason why craft is still important.
